But .. is it just possible that although masked, the attackers weren't wearing gloves .. and the victim noticed the pigmentation of the hand holding the knife to his throat ?
Fuck off. Does it hell. The perps would have shot first before the bloke would have had a chance to do anything. Arming citizens would just mean that criminals go up one more step and shoot first.
Don't agree sad - criminals already make regular use of firearms in old blighty. We don't even have the right to carry a decent bludgeoning weapon that could, at least be used to ward off knife attacks, or multiple attackers. And besides crims who shoot first just to jack a car won't survive long.
I could never support the mass arming of the general public .. the majority of people who have never handled a firearm are more likely to hit an innocent passerby, as to hit the intended target ..
Trust me, using a hand gun is nowhere near as easy as Films & TV would have you believe ..
And there is always the risk that your own gun will be taken by your attackers & turned on you (happens frequently in America)
My daughter carries a large aerosol can of hair lacquer in the driver's door pocket of her car .. an innocent item in itself, cheap to buy, requires no training, requires no licensing etc .. but bloody handy should the need arise ..
I'll admit my view on this is coloured somewhat by having to deal with the kind of fucknuts described in the article far more often than Joe Public generally has to. Being armed in these situations has always in the past - so far - worked out perfectly agreeably for me.
Just think - a frazzled criminal, with not a hair out of place!!
It's worth remembering that when "Ozone Depleting" CFC's were banned as aerosol propellants, butane was almost universally chosen as the replacement....
So whereas an old can would probably put a fire out, the new ones make excellent flame throwers!

Just a thought .. ;)
It's for situations like this that members of the public should be able to enjoy concealed carry rights.

I was thinking along the lines of "Two black men wearing balaclavas" would have looked very conspicous.
@ CH - Re the can of hairspray, does she also keep a lighter handy?
@ MD ...
Funnily enough, she is a cigarette smoker .. so I should think there's bound to be one lying around nearby ..
What a great refinement .. I'll pass that one on ..
Cheers mate ..
Fair play to you and I hope it stays that way ;)

I know why, it says in the headline that the car was stolen at Knifepoint, whereas, in the story it says it was stolen in Streetly, West Midlands. :-D
You're not wrong, lol ;)
I'd opt for one of these:

or a taser.
speed is all that matters in these situations.
